Putnam scores Fall Classic prelim victory at Whynot Motorsports Park
Fresh off his championship triumph with the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series, Josh Putnam made the trek to Whynot Motorsports Park (Meridian, Miss.) on Friday afternoon for the 29th-annual Coors Light Fall Classic.
With a pair of preliminary features slated for Friday evening, Putnam recorded the seventh-fastest lap in his time trial group before placing second in his heat. With only 30-laps to make a move in the preliminary feature, Josh quickly leaped to the runner-up position and took the lead away from Cade Dillard on lap 9. Dominating the remaining 21 laps, Putnam soared the $3,000 victory over Morgan Bagley, Cade Dillard, Billy Moyer Sr., and Spencer Hughes who completed the Top-5.
For Saturday's $15,000-to-win finale, Putnam squeezed into the 60-lap main event after grabbing the final transfer spot in his heat race. Looking to charge through the field, Josh was caught up in a major accident on lap 12 which ended his night with a DNF.
